Mr. Silverman,
I don't know if I ever mentioned this to you before, so I thought I would
take the time to do so now. I have been a karate instructor since 1978.
On July 13, 1982, I suffered a spinal cord injury that left me a
quadriplegic. Less than a year later, at the request and urging of my
students I returned to begin instructing once more. It was a rebirth.
With the help of some of my advanced students I became what I consider
even a better teacher. During those early years of learning to cope with
my new life, I found myself stronger mentally and spiritually. During two
separate time spans, I found myself walking with the aid of my wife and
my physical therapist and finally on my own. This was something that was
never in the prognosis of more than two different neurosurgeons. The
important thing here is that I found out just how important the people
that come into your life are to you and that you just don't know who they
will be.
This brings me to something else that I want to share with you. One of
the Powerful Word projects that was returned to me from Crystal, a
10-year-old brown belt. It had to do with cooperation. "Your Cooperation
Is Much Appreciated."

POWerful Words Teacher Appreciation Week Event
We had 16 teachers attend
and this was our 1st time running the event
Students loved it,
Parents loved it,
Teachers LOVED it!
We're considering running it twice next year. Once in the fall and
then again in the spring.
The entire experience was great. We weren't sure what the turnout
would be, but we were happy with what we got. The kids who forgot to
invite their teachers were pretty upset when the other students'
teachers arrived, so I'm sure they'll remember to invite them next year.
We timed the event to match up with our Kids Safe Bully Week at the
school, so teachers who came in saw us in action with the kids and also
saw that our program really is more then just kicking and punching.
I
collected their contact info and am currently working to bring our
bullying program into their classes. We'll also be sening in Sensei
Arango's "What a Teacher Makes" story in a simple frame as a "Thank
You", along with more info on our school programs.
All in all a great event. Press release went out a few days ago and I'm
hoping to see some media exposre on it as well!

I try to tell them what's working for me, but many of the "traditional "retro" karate instructors" aren't yet grasping the new approach to martial arts school success for the new age of karate.

If you are on the fence about whether to subcribe to POWerful Words what
are you waiting for! We have been using the program for over a year. Our
kids love the monthly projects and fight to be the first to turn them in.
The real valuable comes from what the parents see.
We constantly get
feedback similar to this:
"that is the stuff we have always wanted to
teach our kids but just never get around to doing it!"
The big plus for me is that writing our weekly lesson
plan is a breeze. I just plug it in! (with a great bulletin board to

Hi Jason and Dr. Robyn,
I just wanted to pass on some things I heard in class the last few days.
We're into our 9th month working with the Powerful Words program. I use
it with all my kids' classes from ages 4 to 12.
We started "Integrity" yesterday, and one of the 5 year olds said, "Ma'am,
isn't this the same as 'Impulse Control'?" Wow! How astute! I was
floored to realize how much of this is sinking in with even the young
kids!
The mother of one of my newest 4 year olds came and told me that they talk
about the Word of the Month at home every day. Her son told me in class
that his little brother (who is 2) showed good sportsmanship by sharing
with him the other day! Mom said she just LOVES the Word of the Month
and the conversations it's starting at home.
Another mother of three boys in my program is an elementary school
teacher. She told me last week that she wants to talk to the principal
about incorporating something like Powerful Words into the classroom
because she sees what a great tool it is to have at home, and they don't
have any programs like it to use at school. (are you ready to expand to a
new market?)
And ... the other day I was with my niece and nephew, who are not my
students and are not benefiting from this program. They were outside
playing together, sharing paint and working together, and I said, "Wow.
You guys are cooperating very nicely." My niece (age 4) looked up and
said, "No Auntie Kris, we're painting." Oh, well. I guess I'm getting
spoiled.

Mr. Silverman,
I don't know if I ever mentioned this to you before, so I thought I would
take the time to do so now. I have been a karate instructor since 1978.
On July 13, 1982, I suffered a spinal cord injury that left me a
quadriplegic. Less than a year later, at the request and urging of my
students I returned to begin instructing once more. It was a rebirth.
With the help of some of my advanced students I became what I consider
even a better teacher. During those early years of learning to cope with
my new life, I found myself stronger mentally and spiritually.
During two
separate time spans, I found myself walking with the aid of my wife and
my physical therapist and finally on my own. This was something that was
never in the prognosis of more than two different neurosurgeons. The
important thing here is that I found out just how important the people
that come into your life are to you and that you just don't know who they
will be.
This brings me to something else that I want to share with you. One of
the Powerful Word projects that was returned to me from Crystal, a
10-year-old brown belt. It had to do with cooperation. "Your Cooperation
Is Much Appreciated."
Dear Sensei,
Thank you for having the patience and heart in teaching me how much Enshin
Karate could change my life. Your hard work has made me a better person.
You taught me about defending myself, controlling my anger, and being able
to accomplish most anything I set my mind to.
I appreciate the way you
let me know I can do better. Through our cooperation together I know I
can make it to the top. Most of all, I would like to thank you for being

Dr. Silverman,
Thank you for providing us with a comprehensive, logical, step by step,
age appropriate procedure to teach the difficult concepts that even
parents, teachers and care givers have difficulty presenting.
Your program takes single words, like "Anger Management", and breaks it
down on several levels from pre-school to adult.
You energize and educate the parents with an article called "Parents
Perch" every month. The 3-7 year olds are provided with graphics
depicting the topic. Ages 7 and up are given simple THINKING TOOLS to
solve their problems.
One parent told me that when her son came home from class he said "I am
going to be better at being angry because when Sean teases me-I know how
to handle it now!" She had heard the same speech that night and was
totally impressed that her 7 year old got the message so clearly. And mom
is a 4th grade teacher.
Thank you for the tools..it makes the job so much easier and much more
satisfying.

The concept of doing a 'word of the month' is a real simple one. the act
of implementing it for success is not. Jason and Dr. Robyn have made this
incredibly
simple to do.
Powerful words is simple to implement and train your staff on how to run
it. Everything is already done for you. From top to bottom the program
is extremely
professional.
The first stop on my school tour is now my Powerful Words bulletin board.
Parents are always impressed with this. it helps me to build real value
into our program
with very little effort. it has definitely helped me to get parents
excited to enroll their children.
Of course it is also a fantastic retention tool. The more educational we
make our curriculum, the less willing a parent is to allow their child to
quit.
